About Us

Who We Are

Steve Venyak

I began my laboratory career as a part-time delivery driver at Dental Arts Laboratory in 1972 while a

part-time student at ICC. Deciding I didn’t care for the school routine, I became a full-time

employee of the denture department at DAL. In the late 70’s I had the opportunity to join my friend

Jerry Fisher in his startup removables laboratory JH Fisher Co. where I remained for approximately 8

years. In 1984 I acted on a long-time dream and opened my own denture lab, Precision Prosthetics

Laboratory in Peoria. After 15 years of being self-employed, I sold my lab to Bruce and Terry and

again became part of the DAL family. One of my duties was case planning where I developed a

friendship with my now partner, Doug Dudas. Doug and I often talked about how we probably

should have merged our labs instead of selling since we shared a vision of what a laboratory should

be….especially as our new owners, Desktop Metal, moved more in a direction that did not align with

our personal and professional values. Early in 2024 I left Desktop Metal and asked Doug if he would

be interested if pursuing the vision we had shared and open a new laboratory where the focus

would be delivering consistently high-quality work and training the next generation of technicians to

do the same. We are now working hard to make that dream a reality

Who We Are

Douglas Dudas

I was born and raised in the Peoria area. I started with Dental Arts Laboratory right out of high school. I had no idea what I was interested in, once I saw what a dental technician did it struck me as my calling. I took to it like a fish to water.
I honed my craft and elevated my skills and responsibilities. I eventually became lab manager of DAL Bloomington. I learned much from that position, but the distance caused me to miss time with my family. To correct this, I opened my own laboratory Dudas Crown and Bridge.
Having my own business allowed me much growth as a tech and gave me the time to be with my family. I went on field trips, picked them up from school and built great memories.
The owner of DAL called me one day and asked if I was interested in coming back. I sold to DAL and was given the opportunity to learn and work with all the newest technology. Here I met my partner, Steve. We became friends and spoke of how we wished we had joined together years ago.
Things fell apart at our employer. We both left employment there and decided to open our own laboratory. Steve and I were not happy with the current trajectory of our industry. We especially have a distaste for outsourcing out of our country. If this continues, we will lose this manufacturing. With that any opportunity for a young person here to make a career.
